Class Forms, 2014

12 December - 23 January 2015

Leeds College of Art Gallery

This exhibition presents two small sculptural vignettes and a series of drawings
which comprise what the artist refers to as ‘photoworks’.
These works have all started with family photographs, which are not used as
memory objects in this instance, but as little segments of the world in a moment
of time.
They demonstrate in plastic form the transcription led enquiry Gaffney employs
and has exhibited previously.
In Class Forms the point of departure when transcribing the sculpture or
drawing is a period of observational modeling. Using the original photograph as
the object of study, she selects what she thinks of as a fertile element within the
composition and extracts an object through which to make a study of
consciousness.
